Happy Tuesday everyone ! How are you today ? Last night we have had our first snow here in Munich, which kind of made me panic a bit as it quickly reminded me of the fast approaching festive season. Here in Germany, December 1st traditionally marks the beginning of what we call Advent and the five week long Christmas season and I will have to start thinking about Christmas gifts ASAP ! As some of you might know, I am in the process of redecorating Nick and Charlie’s shared room and some of this years Christmas presents will be part of our little home-improvement project ! Now that Nick is a first-grader and little Charlie is in preschool their combined and individual needs have changed and their room should reflect that, right ? Luckily, I know just the thing they need…
This Fall I had the honor of being invited to an exclusive blogger event by Vitsoe, a British furniture company that manufactures and retails furniture designed by the famous German industrial designer Dieter Rams. Together with a small selection of other German bloggers, I was invited to the Vitsoe showroom here in Munich and given the opportunity to have some fun with one of their most iconic designs, the 606 Universal Shelving System. This acclaimed and much copied shelf was designed by Dieter Rams in 1960, as a modular system that can be adjusted and extended according to your ever-changing individual needs. Sounds about right ? Wait for it, it get’s even better… Fellow museum lovers will be delighted to hear that the 606 is so iconic that it is a part of the MoMA collection in New York City !
Vitsoe invited me to assemble my very own version of the 606 and they also had the brilliant idea to send every blogger they invited a large tote, so we could each bring personal items from home to decorate our shelves according to our unique styles. Take a look at my custom Vitsoe shelf, designed for Nick and Charlie…
What do you think ? Would this not be just perfect for them ? I am a huge fan of contemporary and classic designs for kids, that will grow with them and never be outgrown or outdated. Vitsoe’s 606 Universal Shelving System just fits the bill perfectly ! To say that I had a field day would be the biggest understatement – this was the most fun and creative pr event I have been to so far and I can only hope that other companies will take notice and follow suit…
